The building was erected in 1936 – 1937 and was designed by architects Stanisław Zydroń and Stefan Matuszyński. Currently, it is entered into the municipal register of monuments. The tenement house at 14 Rakowicka Street is an example of Krakow’s modernism. Its characteristic feature is the combination of the typical simplicity of modernism with the decorative elements of historicism, in the shape of geometrized forms. The specificity of the Krakow tenement houses of that period are the frames of the entrance doors and windows, as well as the maintenance of the Art Deco style emblem.
Our tenement house has a 4-axial, symmetrically shaped façade, finished with precious plaster stained in mass. The facade strip in the ground floor level, where the service premises are located, will receive a graphite finishing with terrazzo, with rustication between the surfaces of the sites, referring to the original look of the tenement house. The rhythm of the windows of the façade was emphasized by the architectural detail in the form of stripes decorated with a dense horizontal groove – typical of the Krakow residential architecture of that period. The decorative elements of the entrance gate to the building are chromed.
In its new version, the tenement house has an emblem in the form of a flying Art Deco „Heron” which is typical of Krakow. The sculpture was made at our request by a well-known Krakow sculptor, a professor of the Cracow University of Technology – Stefan Dousa. It will constitute a unique decorative element of the front facade and a symbol of the tenement house. It is a strong reference to the military airport that existed at Rakowice at that time. The superstructure of the tenement house will be maintained in a style consistent with the historical part: the color and detail of the elevation will be repeated in this part of the façade. The whole will be crowned with a monumental dormer, stylistically raising the character of the building to one of the most beautiful examples of modernism.

It is located in the city center, only a 10-minute walk away from the Main Market Square. It is an ideal location for those who value art because the Krakow Opera and the Slowacki Theater are in the immediate vicinity. Active leisure enthusiasts will appreciate this location thanks to the proximity of the building near the Planty and the Brotherhood of the Rooster Park.
The main advantage of the location of our tenement house is its location near the centers of: administration (Krakow City Hall, Courts), trade such as Galeria Krakowska, business (Centrum Biurowe Lubicz, Browar Lubicz, Hi Five, or the currently built tower skyscraper – the Unity Tower – former „skeleton”), the hotel industry, conference and education (University of Economics). A complement to all the advantages of the location is access to public transport. Within a few minutes’ walk – there is the Main Railway Station, tram and city bus. It takes 20-30 minutes to reach the Balice airport by car or by Fast Tram.
As a tidbit, it is worth quoting that this was once the place of the village of Rakowice, which according to Jan Długosz was a royal village belonging to the parish of Saint Nicholas. The area of Rakowice was included in military operations which led to the creation of an airport. The history of the Krakow airport dates back to 1912 – 1963. It was founded for the needs of the Austro-Hungarian aviation. In 1917, it became one of the staging points of the first regular postal airline in Europe connecting Vienna with Kiev and Odessa. The air base then passed under the command of the Polish military authorities, becoming the first airport of independent Poland. In the mid-1920s, the decision of the military authorities was extended – Rakowice became the second largest airport in Poland.
